I asked the actor a quick question about Israel at the solidarity for Israel rally in L.A. today. Jon Voight was one of many distinguished guests at today’s rally, among them Governor Schwarzenegger and with him, a large number of the political representatives of the State of California. The rally was a peaceful one, and apart from an elderly man collapsing due to heat exhaustion, there were no incidents. Police said there were about 1200 protestors at the rally, though the organizers said there were over 3000 people attending.

Protestor Mark Steven talks about illegal immigrants being criminals. The turnout was smaller than expected, the media presence seemed to exceed the number of protestors. About 40 immigration activists demonstrated outside tonight’s NBA playoff game between the Lakers and Phoenix Suns at Staples Center because Lakers coach Phil Jackson declined to criticize Arizona’s recently adopted illegal immigration law.

Los Angeles, CA – May 4th, 2010 – Last Chance For Animals (LCA) and The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, founded by Nancy and Katherine Heigl, team up to fight against animal abuse. The Heigl Foundation will be working with LCA by offering a reward for abuse cases that LCA investigates. “We will do everything possible to find the person or persons responsible and make sure they are made accountable and punished to the full extent of the law for their actions,” states Katherine Heigl.

England, the Pit Bull who was bound by his legs and mouth in Bakersfield on April 22nd, was named after Officer Kristen England who found him and took him to the Bakersfield shelter for medical care. “Anyone that would do this to an animal is a coward and would potentially do this to a child or a woman,” states Chris DeRose, president of LCA. England will be released in the care of Heigl Foundation this Wednesday.

LCA, known for exposing cruelty cases, will be present at the arraignment of James Worley on May 7th for hogtying England. “We will investigate animal cruelty cases thoroughly and make sure that the DA’s office prosecutes these cases to the fullest extent of the law,” DeRose states.

LCA is a non-profit animal rights organization that exposes cruelty and abuse nationwide. Since 1984 their investigations on vivisection, pet theft, fur farms and circuses have been used to develop public education and outreach campaigns, and to draft legislation leading to lasting changes for the animals.
